Before having my son, I always dreamed of breastfeeding having seen my sister breast and being breastfed myself. I had a lot of negative impressions going into it from a lot of outside sources telling me to not put that pressure on myself and to just give them a formula. I always knew in my self that despite the challenges it really wanted to do it and alas I am! I remember in the hospital struggling to understand how to get baby boy to latch and being very sore / wiped from birth and surgery I felt really nervous that I wouldn’t manage. Thankfully my sister come to help, being a breastfeeding supporter, she calmly helped me and suggested alternative positions. As Oliver was 10lb 5oz when he was born, I was best going to the rugby ball hold as holding him cross body was really uncomfortable. I also had a lot of comments saying due to being a bigger baby I wouldn’t keep up with his needs. I’m so glad to report I did and do! Within 2 days of birth he was back up to his birth weight (99% percentile). I do remember the first month being really sore with lots of blebs, nipple cream and tears. But we persisted and despite having a bleb for 6 months which was agony (burst it myself, naughty I know!) we have continued on to now it is second nature and I laugh all the strange feeding positions he now has. There’s no signs of him stopping, and knowing we have this precious moments together, just us two, is so special. 15 months and counting 💙
